However, the Undercroft is a treasured space—it’s considered the birthplace of British skateboarding. A haven for skateboarders, BMX riders, and graffiti artists for the past forty years, it is the oldest recognized and still-extant skateboarding space in the world. Long Live South Bank, the grassroots campaign fighting this redevelopment, is dedicated to protecting the Undercroft in its current form and spreading awareness about its irreplaceable historical value, unique architecture, and thriving community.
